According to a recent study [Holman et al., “The gender gap in science: How long until women are equally represented?”, PLoS Biol 16(4) e2004956 (2018)], the number of female authors in the field of Physics is less than 16%, a figure that is currently increasing at a rate of just 0.1% per year. The percentage of female proposers of this proposal is above this, higher than 21%, but it is clear that we are still very far away from a true gender balance. This will be an important issue in the development of this project. Therefore, one of our goals will be to encourage the participation of female researchers in the project as well as to highlight the work of the female scientists participating in the Action.

Throughout February 2020, we conducted a social media campaign where we highlighted the achievements of the favorite female scientist of the members of QGMM. The members of our Action shared their favorite scientists in our social networks. Here is the full collection of slides that were produced.
OTHER GENDER ACTIVITIES
- As part of the commemoration of the International Women’s Day, our colleague Olga Mena has presented a conference at Instituto de Física Corpuscular with the title “Invisibles in the cosmos and invisibles in science”, reviewing the properties of the invisible components of the universe (dark matter and dark energy) as well as the invisibility that many female astronomers experienced, despite their great achievements:

- The members of the COST Action are involved in several initiatives promoting the participation of women in science.
This initiative promotes, coordinates and disseminates different types of activities carried out to celebrate February 11, the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, throughout Spain. Its main objective is the promotion of education and public awareness activities to help achieve greater participation and progress of women and girls in science.
This project, promoted by the University of Valencia (Spain) is aimed at encouraging STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) vocations, especially among girls, through the organization of outreach activities. The project is mainly aimed at pre-university students, from both primary and secondary education.
